On this page
These are the rules every page on AskSonarFit follows. They exist so you can judge how much weight to give what you read here.
Sources
Every compatibility answer and specification must come from a documented source. In order of preference, we use:
- Manufacturer owner's manuals and installation guides
- Manufacturer accessory, compatibility and product specification pages
- Written answers from a manufacturer's support team, with the date recorded
- Authorised dealer documentation, only where the manufacturer has published nothing
We do not use forum posts, user reviews or retailer listings as the source of a compatibility answer or a specification. They can point us towards a question worth checking, but the answer itself must come from one of the sources above.
Each guide lists its sources and shows the date we last checked them. Every record in our compatibility database carries a source link and a date. If we cannot find a documented answer, we say so rather than guess. Our How We Check Compatibility page explains the labels we use in charts and tools.
Testing and Research
We label every guide with how it was made:
- Researched from manufacturer documents. We studied the documentation and specifications. We did not use the product.
- Hands-on tested. We used the product ourselves, and the page explains what we did, where and for how long.
- Hands-on testing and document research. Some products on the page were tested and others were researched, and the page makes clear which is which.
At present, most of our guides are researched, not tested. We will never:
- say or imply we have used, tested or reviewed a product when we have not
- write first-person experiences, photos or "in our testing" claims for products we have not handled
- invent specifications, ratings, scores or reader reviews
- copy manufacturer or retailer product descriptions and present them as our own assessment
How We Recommend Products
When a buying guide recommends a product, the recommendation is based on things you can check: confirmed compatibility with the equipment named, documented specifications, the features that matter for the stated use, and how widely the product is available. We explain the reasons for each pick and the trade-offs.
No manufacturer or retailer can pay to be recommended or to change a compatibility answer. We do not accept payment for placement in our guides or charts.
Conflicts of Interest
We earn money from affiliate links, as explained in our Affiliate Disclosure. A product is never listed as compatible because we could earn from it, and incompatible products are marked as incompatible even when they are popular. Pages that contain affiliate links carry an advertising disclosure at the top, and buy buttons are labelled as affiliate links.
If a manufacturer ever sends us a product for free or on loan, the page that mentions it will say so.
Bylines
Our guides are researched and written by Daniel Hamphery. Bylines on this site never claim personal experience, qualifications or testing that has not happened.
Tools We Use
We use software tools, including AI writing tools, to help draft and organise pages. A person checks every page before it is published, and every compatibility claim and specification is checked against its documented source.
Corrections
When we find a mistake or a reader reports one, we:
- check the claim against the manufacturer source
- correct the page and the compatibility record if needed
- update the "checked" date on the page
- add a short note at the end of the page when a correction changes a compatibility answer or a recommendation
To report a problem, email us at (email address coming soon) with the page address, the part numbers involved and, if you can, a link to the manufacturer document. We aim to review every report within seven days.
Updates
We recheck pages regularly, and sooner when a manufacturer releases new models, discontinues products or changes software support. Pages that are no longer accurate are corrected, merged into a newer guide or removed.
